Top Norwich Lunch Spots You Shouldn’t Miss

Our Favourite Norwich Lunch Spots You Need to Visit!

Norwich, especially in recent years, has become abundant with quirky and independent lunch spots around each corner. Scrap the standard ‘Wagamamas’, venture out of Chapelfield Food Court and head to one of these absolute gems instead. Here are our favourite Norwich lunch spots you need to visit! We’re getting hungry just thinking about them…

Grosvenor Fish Bar

‘Grosvenor Fish Bar’ is an absolute must. Situated in the Norwich Lanes, there is always a winding queue outside. Not content with simply offering the humble cod and chips, Grosvenors really push the boat out. For just £5 you can buy the most amazing crispy squid rings with garlic aioli and chips, or how about the Waco Taco? Spicy steamed cod accompanied by salsa, lettuce, cheese and sour cream. This is far more than your average fish shop. Perhaps the best thing about Grosvenors? Order your chips and side of curry sauce and head to ‘The Birdcage’ opposite. Grab a pint and wait while they bring your food to you from across the way. Not feeling day time drinking? If the British weather permits, sit out on the green and people watch while you munch.

The Bicycle Shop

‘The Bicycle Shop’ is a firm favourite amongst our friends, and is located on St Benedicts Street. It has the quaint décor, which will definitely drum up some inspiration during your lunch break. Though called The Bicycle Shop, there’s no bikes sold here. However, if you’re looking for tasty food, then you’ve found the place. If you go, make sure you try the quesadillas. Fantastic value and one of the tastiest things on the menu. That’s if you’re not tempted by breakfast for lunch… It’s hard to resist eggs, bacon and a mug of hot coffee.

Roots

One of our favourite things about ‘Roots’ is that they use locally sourced produce wherever they can. This produce is then illustrated on a chalk map in the main café area to show where it’s from. Out the back is a small enclosed garden – a perfect sunny lunch spot with a relaxed atmosphere.  ‘Roots’ are locally renowned for their sausage rolls, which really are every bit as good as they look! The playlist here is also cracking. If you’re after a mellow soul vibe, this is your place. Think Etta James, Angie Stone and Nina Simone. Definitely the tunes to prepare you for the rest of the day.

33 Café

‘No.33 Café’ opened in 2006 and has been growing in popularity ever since. Easy to walk past, but definitely not to be missed! Often with queues outside at lunchtime, it’s 100% worth the wait. We recommend sitting downstairs as opposed to upstairs, as you can really feel the energy of the place and the people. Their halloumi, roasted peppers and hummus stack and posh mushrooms on toast are a must-have, or alternatively a slice (or two!) of their homemade cake and a cup of coffee.

Woolf & Bird

Our new favourite chicken joint. Free range chicken, Norfolk ingredients and a great atmosphere. Located on Exchange street, Woolf and Bird is in the perfect location to pop in for a spot of lunch. Aside from chicken strips, unique flavour combinations such as Japanese karaage popcorn chicken with sesame and seaweed can be found. Perfect for those who want a little bit of flavour for lunch. If you’re not in a rush, play a game of table football, or try one of their unique cocktails. Each chicken item has it’s own cocktail recommendation that accompanies it. These guys know their stuff.

where to eat lunch norwich

Whatever you fancy for lunch, there’s truly something for everyone in Norwich. With new and delicious restaurants opening all the time, we’re truly spoilt for choice. If you want an even quicker bite to eat, or maybe don’t have time to sit, we’d definitely recommend Norwich market. There’s almost too much choice. From Korean bao buns to falafel wraps, it’s a foodie heaven there right now.

If you don’t have time to eat, why not try out one of our top recommended coffee shops?
